Access Allegan Recent Arrests

Allegan recent arrests touch more than one office, and that shapes any search. Allegan serves as the county seat. The city police, the county sheriff, and the courts all share the name. Each keeps its own files. Someone trying to learn who was arrested in Allegan has one job first. Pick the right custodian. The police hold incident details. The sheriff holds county custody and booking records. The court, in turn, holds the case file that follows the arrest.

How Allegan Arrests Work

City matters go through the Allegan Police Department. County custody runs through the Allegan County Sheriff's Office and its Corrections Center. The Corrections Center operates the main county jail. Both agencies sit in Allegan, yet neither automatically holds the other's full record. An incident report starts with the arresting police agency. A county booking sheet and jail photo belong to corrections. That shift occurs once the person enters county custody.

The city counted 5,222 residents in the April 1, 2020 Census. The 57th District Court, the sheriff, the jail, and city police all sit close together. That makes visits easy. It also invites a common mistake. People send a request to an office just because its mailing address says Allegan. Match the record type to the right agency before submitting anything.

Where Allegan Arrests Appear

The Allegan Police publish no daily arrest log, booking-photo page, or municipal mugshot roster. For county custody, the official county inmate lookup is the best first check. It covers only people currently in custody. Other official routes still matter.

Source Record or status Photo Limit
Allegan Police Department City incident records Request if city-held No public daily feed found
County inmate lookup Current county custody Detail may include image Released entries disappear
57th District Court Criminal starts and arraignment No booking gallery Not a custody roster
MiCOURT Available court case data No booking gallery Coverage limits apply
County news outlets Selected reported events Story-specific Unofficial and incomplete

Check official sources first. A news story or old archive can help identify an event, but neither one shows present custody or the final court result.

Find Someone Arrested in Allegan

Begin with what is known about the arrest. A full name, a rough date, the arresting agency, and the incident location all help separate city police activity from a sheriff booking. A blank roster result does not prove that anyone was released.

  1. Confirm whether Allegan Police, the sheriff, or another agency made the arrest.
  2. Search the official county inmate lookup with the complete last name.
  3. Use the optional first name or booking date to narrow possible matches.
  4. Review identifiers, date, charge, bond, release, and image fields only for the correct person.
  5. Request the city police report from Allegan if it holds the incident record.
  6. Ask the sheriff for a county booking record or photograph when county corrections holds it.
  7. Follow the case in court for disposition.

Allegan County posts no official same-day arrest feed. The Daily Arrest Report explains the current-custody fallback and why a public posting is not guaranteed.

Allegan Police Records Request

The city offers a detailed written-request path. The official Allegan Police FOIA packet uses 170 Monroe Street, Allegan, MI 49010. It lists (269) 673-2115 for the police department, and rhoyer@cityofallegan.org for police records. Fax is (269) 673-5170. Each request must describe the record well enough, and no special form is needed.

Phone: (269) 673-2115

Fax: (269) 673-5170

The packet allows five business days for a response. A ten-business-day extension is also permitted. Replies may grant the request. They may deny it with reasons. Some split it, and others simply announce an extension. Some records cannot go out by email where law bars that method. Five days is a response rule, not a promise that every record lands within it.

  1. Name the person and give the narrowest useful incident date range.
  2. State whether the request seeks an incident report, narrative, body-camera material, or city-held photo.
  3. Add the report number and location when known.
  4. Ask for a cost estimate if review, redaction, or copies may create charges.
  5. Keep the city response and use any appeal process stated in the packet if needed.

County-Seat Arrest Record Routing

County bookings need a different request. The Allegan County FOIA page names the sheriff and corrections FOIA coordinator as the Undersheriff at 640 River Street, Allegan, MI 49010. The office number is (269) 673-0402, and fax is (269) 673-0406. A JustFOIA portal is available too.

Ask for each item by name. The booking record, booking photograph, charge and bond sheet, and release record all require separate requests. Add a booking number or an approximate booking date when known. The county lists no fixed booking-photo fee, so request an estimate. Fingerprint-service charges are unrelated, and they should never stand in for a records fee.

The split is simple. Allegan Police can hold the city investigation. County corrections holds the jail side. The district or circuit court holds the case. A complete account may take records from more than one custodian.

Note: An Allegan mailing address identifies location, not ownership; name both the agency and exact record in every request.

Why New Allegan Arrests Lag

Booking is a process, not a single timestamp. Allegan County annual-report material describes data entry. It also covers mugshot photography, fingerprints, warrant cancellation, property documentation, body scans, and release checks. So a person can be arrested before any finished public detail appears. Corrections staffing runs continuously, but the county posts no roster refresh time or weekend rule.

That same report counted 3,882 bookings and 3,774 releases in its referenced year. Those figures show work volume, nothing more. They are not daily arrest totals or proof that everyone appeared online. When time matters, check the official roster first. Then contact the agency or send a narrow request. An unofficial repost cannot establish the official booking time.

Allegan Arrest Records and Court

The 57th District Court sits at 113 Chestnut Street. It handles adult criminal starts, arraignments, bail, warrants, and felony preliminary proceedings. An arraignment is the early hearing. Charges are presented there, and release conditions may be set. A disposition is the court's outcome, such as a dismissal, plea, trial judgment, or sentence.

Use MiCOURT or the clerk to check the case. Matters bound over can move into the 48th Circuit Court records system. A roster's charge is only what was recorded for custody. It can differ from the charge later filed, amended, or resolved.

After an Allegan arrest, cases move to court. The official Michigan MiCOURT case search is then the source for court disposition.

Official Michigan MiCOURT case search used to verify an Allegan arrest disposition

The Allegan court search verifies case files, not live custody. It shows where a case stands in the courts, but it is no help for finding out who is in the county jail on a given day.

Booking
Jail intake and creation of the corrections record.
Arraignment
The first formal court stage for presenting charges and release terms.
Bond
A court-set condition related to release while the case is pending.
Disposition
The final or current court resolution, not the initial booking claim.

Allegan Arrest Photos and Custody

A mugshot appears on the county roster only inside a person's detail page, and only when one exists. There is no chronological photo gallery. Michigan public-record law does allow a booking photograph from the county jail to be requested through FOIA, a point reinforced by Patterson v Allegan County Sheriff, and exemptions still apply.

Someone released from custody can drop off the roster while the booking jacket stays in county records. A sentenced prisoner moves to state supervision. For that stage, MDOC OTIS is the right search. OTIS itself says it does not cover county-jail-only custody. Each tool tracks a different stage.

Stage Source What absence means
Just arrested Arresting agency Intake may not be complete
County custody County roster Verify with jail if no match
Released FOIA and court Roster may have rolled off
State sentence MDOC OTIS County search is the wrong stage

Allegan Arrest News Caveats

Allegan County News is a weekly county paper. Its crime and arrest coverage is selective, not a running log. The paper offers no stable booking section. There is no mugshot gallery either. WHTC and other area radio outlets tend to pick up high-interest incidents. Those stories never substitute for police, corrections, or court records.

The big third-party arrest sites tell a similar story. RecentlyBooked, Busted Newspaper, Arrests.org, and Mugshots.zone carry no current Allegan page. Mugshots.com keeps an older county archive that is mostly historical. Treat any dated third-party entry cautiously. It may be stale, incomplete, or simply wrong about present custody.
